- 2 cups all-purpose flour (250 g)
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (6 g)
- 3/4 tsp salt (4 g)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter or margarine (30 g)
- 7/16 cup whole milk (100 ml)
- 3 1/3 tbsp water (50 ml)
For glazing the top:
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp milk (5 g)
In a mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. Add the butter (or margarine), milk, and water. Knead until a soft dough forms. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a bowl or pot, covering it with a lid. Let it rest in a warm place for 90 minutes. Punch down the dough and let it rest for an additional 10 minutes.
Divide the dough into 5 equal parts. Roll each part into a rectangle, then roll it up and pinch the edges together. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rest for 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
Make diagonal cuts on the top of each baguette and brush them with the egg yolk mixed with milk.
Bake the baguettes until they are golden brown and fully cooked, about 20-25 minutes.
Enjoy your freshly baked, crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside baguettes that will outshine any store-bought ones. Bon appétit!
