Could an amazing meal really be any easier? This salmon recipe will be on your table in less than 20 minutes and with the most simple ingredients, which makes it perfect for any weeknight. The beauty of this salmon recipe is that it can all be made in one pan. I prefer a skillet as it easily transfers between the stove-top and the oven, which is part of this recipe.
My favorite part is seeing the kids gobble it up. I love that I am feeding something healthier and getting some essential Omega oils into their diet!
How to Cook Honey Garlic Salmon
A quick note: the salmon fillets should be at room temperature as cooking with a chilled fillet could result in uneven heat throughout.
- For this easy salmon recipe, I usually start off by seasoning the fish. A simple light coating of salt and pepper is all you need.
- Start off the heating process in a skillet or other oven safe pan. The skillet will get transferred to the oven for broiling in about 5 minutes.
- Melt the butter in the skillet and add in the garlic. Cook for about 1 minute. Garlic has a tendency to burn very quickly though, so watch this very closely. The garlic is done cooking when it becomes fragrant.
- Add in the glaze ingredients; honey, water, lemon juice, and soy sauce. Mix this all together and then add in your salmon fillet, skin side down. This will cook for three to four minutes.
- Baste the salmon with the pan juices a few times and then transfer the skillet to your oven to the broil setting. No need to flip the fish! Place the skillet on the top rack and stay put, this will only take 4-6 minutes. You are basically looking to just char the outside of the fish.
How do You Know When Salmon Is Done Cooking?
Doneness is really a matter of opinion when it comes to salmon. Some prefer a medium salmon and some prefer their salmon well done. Salmon is officially cooked through when the meat is a solid pink through the center. Always keep in mind that the fish will continue to cook for a few minutes after you remove it from heat.
Best Wine to Pair with Honey Garlic Salmon
As a general rule, an oily fish like salmon pairs really well with full-bodied white wine like Chardonnay. From what I understand it brings out the rich flavor of the fish. I tend to be a rule breaker when it comes to wines though, my personal rule is, if you think it tastes good, then it pairs with what you are drinking.
Truth be told, I often serve with salmon with milk. The kids aren’t big wine drinkers.
- 4 (about 4 ounces each) salmon fillets, skin on
- 1/4 salt
- 1/4 pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice, (plus extra to serve)
Arrange the oven rack to the middle setting and preheat to broil.
Season salmon with salt and pepper. Set aside.
Heat the butter in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat until melted. Add the garlic and sauté for about a minute, until fragrant.
Add the soy sauce, honey, water, and lemon juice and stir combine.
Add the salmon filets to the skillet skin side down. Cook for 3-4 minutes, basting regularly with the pan juices.
Transfer the pan to your oven for 5-6 minutes, or until the tops of the salmon are nicely charred.
Remove from the oven and drizzle with lemon juice and remaining sauce from the pan.
