Sigars Börek, a national Turkish dish, graces the table for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in its homeland. Resembling Cuban cigars in shape, these delightful little rolls get their name from this resemblance. The traditional crispy rolls are crafted from the finest phyllo dough.
Ingredients for Sigars Börek:
- Pita – 4 sheets (thin)
- Feta cheese – 150 grams (5.3 ounces)
- Eggs – 1 piece
- Salt (if needed) and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
How to Cook Sigars Börek:
Cut the pita sheets into triangles. Finely chop dill and add it to the feta cheese, season with pepper. Take an egg, separate the yolk from the white, and add the yolk to the filling. Mix everything thoroughly.
Place the filling at the bottom of the triangle (the widest edge) and roll it into a little tube. Brush the tip of the triangle with egg white to prevent them from unwinding.
Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and fry our Sigars Börek. Once done, place the rolls on paper napkins to remove excess oil.
You’ll end up with a pile of deliciously crispy rolls! By the way, you can prepare a larger batch and freeze some for later: if unexpected guests arrive, you’ll have a delightful treat to offer.
Enjoy your meal!
