For the Dough:
- 250 grams (8.8 ounces) of flour
- 125 grams (4.4 ounces) of cottage cheese
- 50 grams (1.8 ounces) of sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 75 milliliters (2.5 fluid ounces) of vegetable oil
- 75 milliliters (2.5 fluid ounces) of milk
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
For the Filling:
- 70-100 grams (2.5-3.5 ounces) of poppy seeds
- A handful of raisins
- 100-150 grams (3.5-5.3 ounces) of sugar
- 2/3 cup (160 milliliters) of milk
- 1 egg
Instructions:
Rinse the poppy seeds to remove any debris, then soak them in milk and cook until the milk is absorbed.
Pour boiling water over the raisins to plump them up. Drain.
Combine the soaked poppy seeds with sugar and raisins, and drain any excess liquid.
Sift the flour with baking powder and salt.
Add oil, milk, cottage cheese, sugar to the flour mixture, and knead the dough.
Form the dough into a ball.
Sprinkle the work surface with flour and roll out the dough into a rectangle measuring 30 by 20 cm (11.8 by 7.9 inches). Cut it in half lengthwise.
Spread the poppy seed filling over the dough, leaving a 2 cm (0.8 inches) border on all sides.
Pinch the edges of the dough and fold them over. Place the roll on a baking sheet, seam side down. Brush it with a mixture of egg and milk.
Bake at 180°C (356°F) for about 45 minutes.
Check for readiness with a toothpick; it should come out dry. Cool on a wire rack and slice.
