A quick casserole pie with a filling, in our case cabbage, is perfect for such occasions. I’m sure that the ingredients needed to make this casserole pie can be found in any homemaker’s arsenal. Now let’s see how to prepare a cabbage casserole pie with kefir in the oven…

Cabbage Casserole Pie with Kefir

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 1 and 1/4 cups kefir (300 milliliters);
  • Three raw chicken eggs;
  • Two cups of all-purpose flour;
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda;
  • 1 teaspoon salt.

For the filling:

  • 1 pound (about 500 grams) cabbage;
  • Three medium-sized onions;
  • One large carrot;
  • 3.5 ounces (100 grams) butter;
  • Salt, spices.

How to make cabbage casserole pie with kefir in the oven:

First, let’s prepare the filling. Finely dice the onions and sauté them in vegetable oil for a few minutes until they become golden.

While the onions are sautéing, grate the carrot using a large grater. Then add it to the pan with the onions and sauté them together.

Finely shred the cabbage. The finer, the better. Then add it to the pan with the onions and carrots, cover with a lid, and simmer for about 5 minutes. After that, remove the lid and continue simmering for another 15 minutes.

Now let’s prepare the dough. Add baking soda and three eggs to the kefir and blend them together using a blender or whisk. Then add the flour and mix well until the batter reaches a consistency similar to slightly thick sour cream.

Season the simmered cabbage filling with spices and add about 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of butter for better flavor. Let it cool slightly.

Preheat the oven to 390 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Grease a baking dish with butter and spread the prepared filling in it. Pour half of the dough over the filling and mix everything well.

Finally, pour the remaining dough, leveling it evenly on the surface. Then place it in the preheated oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes.

The cabbage casserole pie with kefir in the oven is ready. I’m sure that after trying such a savory pastry once, you will repeatedly come back to making similar casserole pies.

By the way, you can use not only vegetable filling but also meat filling.
