When you’re craving a hearty and comforting meal, few things hit the spot like tender chicken in a rich, flavorful sauce. This Chicken in Sherry Wine Sauce is a perfect example—succulent chicken breasts simmered in a creamy, savory sauce with a touch of sherry for a unique depth of flavor. It’s a dish that’s easy to make, yet impressive enough for special dinners or a cozy weeknight meal. Pair it with mashed potatoes or steamed rice for a satisfying and delicious experience.

How to Make Chicken in Sherry Wine Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the chicken breasts or tenders until lightly browned on all sides.
- Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside. In the same pan, sauté the minced garlic (and onions, if desired) until fragrant. Add the cream of chicken soup and milk, stirring to combine. Note: Season the chicken with salt and pepper on both sides before cooking.
- Return the chicken to the pan, spooning some of the sauce over the chicken. Place the sliced onion rings on top for a decorative touch. Cover the pan and simmer for 30 minutes. (While the onion rings add a nice presentation, you can also cook the onions directly in the sauce for a more flavorful base.)
- Pour the sherry into the pan and simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes. You can also add extra sherry and mushrooms for added flavor, as shown in the picture.
- Serve the chicken with mashed potatoes (my personal favorite) or steamed rice for a complete meal.
This Chicken in Sherry Wine Sauce is a fantastic example of comfort food that’s full of flavor but easy enough to make on a busy evening. The chicken becomes incredibly tender while absorbing the rich, creamy sauce, and the sherry gives the dish a subtle complexity that elevates it. Whether you’re serving it to family or guests, this dish is sure to impress. Paired with mashed potatoes or rice, it’s the kind of meal that feels like a warm hug on your plate. Enjoy!
