Chinese Beef with Noodles and Vegetables

Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • Noodles: 200g (7 oz)
  • Beef fillet (preferably ribeye or tenderloin): 350g (12 oz)
  • Broccoli: 500g (1.1 lbs)
  • Button mushrooms: 6-8
  • Medium onion: 1
  • Garlic cloves: 2
  • Fresh ginger root: 1 cm (0.4 inch)
  • Sesame oil: 2 tsp (10ml)
  • Cornstarch: 1 tbsp (8g)
  • Oyster sauce: 1/3 cup (80ml)
  • Sherry: 1/3 cup (80ml)
  • Soy sauce: 2 tbsp (30ml)
  • Brown sugar: 1 tbsp (12g)
  • Red chili flakes: 1/2 tsp (2.5g)
  • Vegetable oil


Prepare the Ingredients:

Cut the broccoli into florets. Peel and slice the onion. Mince the garlic and ginger. Slice the mushrooms thinly. Cut the beef into thin strips.

Make the Marinade:

In a bowl, combine the oyster sauce, soy sauce, sherry, sesame oil, cornstarch, ginger, garlic, brown sugar, and chili flakes. Add the beef and onion, mix well, and let marinate for 2-3 hours.

Cook the Noodles:

Cook the noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse under cold water.


Stir-Fry the Vegetables:

Heat a wok over medium heat. Add a bit of vegetable oil, then stir-fry the broccoli and mushrooms for about 3 minutes. Transfer to a plate.

Cook the Beef:

Add a bit more oil to the wok. Add the beef and stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Return the broccoli and mushrooms to the wok and stir-fry together for another 2-3 minutes.


Combine and Serve:

Rinse the noodles with hot water, drain, and add to the wok. Stir everything together over high heat until well mixed and heated through. Serve immediately.
