Ingredients for Pumpernickel Spinach Dip

  • ¾ cup light sour cream (180 ml)
  • ⅔ cup mayonnaise, such as Hellmann’s® (160 ml)
  • ⅔ cup Miracle Whip® (160 ml)
  • 1 package (1.4 oz) dry vegetable soup mix (40 g)
  • 10 oz frozen spinach, thawed, excess liquid squeezed, and chopped (280 g)
  • A few dashes of hot sauce, such as Cholula®, to taste
  • ¼ cup red bell peppers, finely chopped (60 ml)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste (Mixed peppercorns recommended.)
  • 1 large loaf of unsliced pumpernickel bread

How to Make Pumpernickel Spinach Dip

Prepare the Dip Mixture:

In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, Miracle Whip®, dry vegetable soup mix, spinach, hot sauce, red bell peppers, and freshly ground black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let the flavors meld together.

Prepare the Bread Bowl:

About 15 minutes before serving, take the loaf of pumpernickel bread and cut a circular section out of the top. Hollow out the inside, keeping the removed bread pieces intact for later use.

Toast the Bread Bowl:

Preheat your oven’s broiler on high. Place the hollowed-out loaf on a baking sheet and broil for 2 minutes or until the edges are slightly toasted. This will help the bread hold up against the creamy dip.

Assemble and Serve:

Transfer the toasted bread bowl to a serving plate and spoon the chilled spinach dip into the center. Cut the reserved bread pieces into 2-inch (5 cm) cubes and arrange them around the bread bowl. For added variety, you can include fresh vegetables like carrot sticks, celery, or cherry tomatoes as dippers. Serve immediately.
