These bagels made from yeast dough are incredibly fluffy and aromatic.
You can fill them with various fillings, including nuts, poppy seeds, and jam, but they can also be enjoyed without any filling.
Ingredients:
- Flour – 2.2 pounds (1 kg )
- Eggs – 2
- Milk – 0.85 cups (0.2 liters)
- Salt – ½ teaspoon
- Sugar – 5 tablespoons
- Dry yeast – 2 teaspoons
- Butter – 2.6 ounces (75 grams)
- Sesame seeds – 2 tablespoons
- Jam (used for filling) – 3.5 ounces (100 grams)
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, dry yeast, and warm milk. Leave the mixture aside to allow the yeast to activate.
Sift the remaining flour into a separate bowl. Add salt, the remaining sugar, beaten eggs, and the yeast mixture. Mix the dough well.
Finally, add the butter to the dough and knead it thoroughly. Let the dough rise for 60 minutes.
Once the dough has risen, divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and cover them with a towel. Let them rest for 10 minutes.
Roll out each ball of dough into an elongated oval shape, making sure it is slightly longer than the palm of your hand.
Place a spoonful of filling on one end of each oval and seal the edges, making sure the jam doesn’t leak.
Make four cuts on the other end of the pastry and shape it into a bagel.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place all the bagel-shaped pastries on it. Leave them there for 15-20 minutes to rise.
Beat an egg and brush the pastries with the beaten egg.
Sprinkle sesame seeds (or poppy seeds or sugar, according to your preference) on top of the bagels.
Preheat the oven to 356 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius) and bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes.
The bagels are ready! Enjoy!
