Why make apple jam instead of apple preserves? Simply put, it’s much easier to prepare! Apple jam offers the perfect texture for spreading on bread without the fuss. Follow our simple recipe for a unique and delicious apple jam that’s perfect for any occasion.
Why make apple jam when we usually make apple preserves? Because it’s significantly easier! Proper preserves require a thick syrup with perfectly shaped fruit pieces, which can be difficult to achieve with tender apples. Apple jam, on the other hand, turns out perfectly every time. The apples cook down quickly, combining with the syrup to create a spreadable and delicious jam that stays put on your toast.

Ingredients for 1 Portion
- Sugar – 1 kg (5 cups)
- Citric acid – 1 tsp
- Apples – 1 kg (2.2 lbs)
Directions
Prepare the Apples:
Wash, peel, and core the apples. Cut the flesh into small cubes. Place the apple cubes in a large, heavy-bottomed pot.
Cook the Jam:
Add 150 ml (2/3 cup) of water to the apples, then add the sugar and citric acid. Bring to a boil and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, for 30-40 minutes. The jam is ready when a drop placed on a plate thickens quickly and doesn’t spread.
Store the Jam:
Spoon the jam into dry, sterilized jars and seal with lids. Turn the jars upside down on a doubled towel and let cool. Store in a cool, dry, dark place.
Helpful Tip:
Apple jam keeps well for up to a year, or even two, if you have the willpower not to eat it all too quickly. Under normal conditions (a cool, dark place), it won’t crystallize or spoil.
Fun Fact:
You can add cinnamon to your apple jam. There are two ways to do this: stir in a teaspoon of ground cinnamon or add a cinnamon stick to the syrup (remove the stick before jarring the jam).
Enjoy this easy and delicious Apple Jam, perfect for spreading on toast, adding to desserts, or even eating by the spoonful. It’s a delightful treat that’s sure to become a pantry staple!
